Default Woodruff key question

How do I insert the little Woodruff key into my generator shaft? Tricks tips?

Make sure the slot in the shaft is clean and tap it in with a small hammer. Works for meeeee....

Wilbur,
No tricks needed. Just make sure the key or slot is not damaged.
If the key is damaged and you don't have a new one then get a piece of fine sand paper (preferably wet or dry 220 grit) and place the paper over a flat glass table or equivalent and slide it till the burs come off.
If you have a damaged slot then carefully use a small file to true it up.

One more question in regards to my generator. I replace the bearings, brushes, field coils....my question involves the wiring going to the brushes should the positive be insulated or is this normal to have the wire exposed as it is?

When installing the woodruff ket after taping it in place in the slot in the shaft. tap down the end that slides in first a little, so that it doesn't catch the gear.

The gen. wires wook good to me. If they wanted then insulated they would have came insulated. Note that the brush is in an insulated holder.

And when the spring moves the carbon brush forward to contact the armature comutator, the wire will move away from the casing.
