Default Fatman Front End Install on a 62

Just finishing up installing a Fatman front suspension with power steering on a friends 62. Several members have done this, makes a great driving improvement and if you install a smaller steering wheel make getting in and out easier.

Nice that they "scooped" out the center of the cross member for the larger 8" balancer.

Did it change the location of the wheels?

Wheelbase and track width stay the same.

Default Fixing to do the same

Mark6669,

Hello, I am fixing to do the same thing to my 60. My car is off the frame and was wondering how difficult it was getting everything lined up right, and also are there any tips you might share.

Thanks,

Wes

Looks nice Mark. Did you add the 2 side engine mounts? My replacement '62 frame(for a rusty '62 I once had) that I recently sold had those same brackets welded on as it had a Jim Meyers setup removed from it when I bought it a few years ago. It also had some cuts on the side U-Frame which I imagine was for header clearance.

Also, does the stock front crossover brake line work or do you have to make a now line? Or is it a dual MC system and all new lines anyways.

I'll have to check it out some day when I'm in town.

I have Charlie from Charlie's Customs install the crossmember, he does 8-10 a year on Street Rods and can do the job in a couple of days. I leave the engine in the car on the original mounts ,he fabricates the side mounts and removes the engine to install the front end, after crossmember and steering rack installation the engine is reinstalled to fabricate the steering shaft. All of these I have done I change to a dual brake system and fabricate new lines. This car is getting a power brake system from muskegen Brake, a new crate engine and Vintage Air plus the smaller 15" steering wheel. It is a lot of work and money but the owner is in his 70's and had trouble getting in and out of the car and driving without Power steering

Nice that we have these options for owner's so they can keep driving them. Looks like a nice overall upgrade. I bet the owner will be happy. Looks just like his old car but much easier to drive.

Also gets rid of that dangerous tube steering column. I always fear that in my '59 in a head on and always try to be ready to duck right if ever necessary.

That looks like one of those kits that are based on Mustang2/ Pinto front suspension geometry, if so can't be much better than stock.

Looks great!
When I was looking to upgrade my 62 suspension I looked at this set up. Yes, it's set up on a mustang/pinto geometry but, It's a good set up for the cost. I drove a 6o with it installed and it handle very nice.I decided to go with a new frame, only because my old frame would have needed so much work.
Not sure what it cost today but a few years ago this set up could be purchase for $1500 complete.
