George Clooney's '58 Corvette Convertible Is All in the Family
It's probably fairly well known that Clooney drives a Corvette, but we didn't realize the '58 convertible has such a long and storied Clooney history.

What happened to his trunk spears, hood louvers, slotless caps and silver rims? MIA

If that's a '58, where are the trunk tusks? Hmm, wheels are painted wrong too, looks like a later car. No visors in this article's pic, but the UK article shows visors and no louvred hood. And that article actually mentions the correct hood and trunk styling in the text but doesnt reference that the car doesnt have them. It does say George added red leather to the interior.

Very nice piece of family history - I hope to be a proud parent who can pass on our first owner Corvette in our family.

The 58 Vette is probably my ATF C1, too bad someone removed the louvered hood and the chrome stripes on the trunk, that's what makes the 58 cool. Still a very nice Vette.

Guys, this thread about George Clooney's C1 (whatever year it is) quickly turned into an ugly political argument. I originally planned to just move it to P, R & C so people could continue fighting at their leisure. However, since this thread was posted by a Forum editor and was linked to the Main Page, I decided to respect his placement of a relevant story within the C1 section and preserve it.
So, I removed several posts, of political attacks and responses. This sort of discussion is routine in P, R & C and if you would like to call people names who don't agree with you politically, I suggest you do it over there. Please do not make posts in this thread further about politics, whether they are about Clooney's, yours or anyone elses. Thanks.

That has to be a 59 or 60, if you google George Clooney and Corvette you will see other pictures, and a mention that it is a 59 or 60. Also, there is a picture with the speaker screen bezel on one (60, or maybe late 59), and another with what looks like the 59 seat pattern. I'm guessing the Daily Mail article just got the year wrong. And if you click Adam's link to the Esquire article, there is the quote: "And then there is the 1959 red Corvette convertible, glinting as comically as a hero's tooth in an old Saturday-afternoon serial."

I love the look of his car. If that isn't totally original and they made changes to it, then they did a fantastic job....because it looks fantastic. Very classic. I hope my 2005 red C6 has the same appeal 50 years from now

When I first saw the picture, it took me one second to see it looks like a '59, and I thought that the editor or moderator would be on it in another second too, and make the correction in the text; but, when that didn't happen w/in one additional minute, I thought, how could this article be so wrong? How could the editor or moderator allow this?! Then I thought, oh well, just let it go......

Why is it that everyone thinks that every Corvette out there is 100% stock?
In the C3 group, the C4 group, and the others, it is still somewhat common to find several threads with cars customized to look different than stock.
We all know that Corvettes have been customized by owners almost since the first ones rolled out of Flint. Yet this '58 MUST look exactly like it did new and the Clooneys were never allowed to change it from stock? In 1960, the '58 would have looked "old" and to make it look "new", a hood and trunk lid plus paint would have done that.
How many have a '67 big block hood scoop on their C2? Do you have threads about how you have messed up the car or that your car can't possibly be the year you claim it to be?
