Fuel Type for '58 ?
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the classic car world, and my first car that I purchased was a '58 corvette with fuel injection. Original motor and FI. My dream car.
I forgot to ask the previous owner about the the fuel he used.
Someone out there please advise me on the fuel that I should use. Is it regular unleaded with special additives that I put into the gas tank?
Note: I want to avoid racing fuel for now. Sounds expensive and complicated.
Thanks,
Sean

If your car's engine retains its original high compression, you should probably start with 91 octane premium pump gas. If you don't hear any pinging, you can try 89 octane at the next fill. I doubt you could get away with using 87 octane, but if you don't hear pinging with 89 octane fuel, it would be worth a try.
If you PM me with your email address, I'll send you a copy of a paper which will help you learn how to deal with some of the quirks of the old fuel injection unit.

Thanks everyone for your response, especially Jim, who sent me the paper on FI. Extremely helpful! In addition to using premium gas (92 octane), should I ad any additives to to the tank?
Thanks Again!
