67 bb , not sure if wiring is diff sb vs bob, that has 350 amp gauge not hooked up ?? And the batt does not want to charge. Replaced the alt and battery, yes charges by charger, but wasn't sure if the gauge runs in series and may be why not charging ? Any input appreciated

What's a 350 amp gauge? Have you checked the battery and alt with a volt meter?

You lost me. The alt should be putting out 14.1 or so at the red terminal is it?

Batteries in the big block position on the left so didn't know if wiring had been changed with a small block in there

Julie67:

1. The battery for a 1965 BB was on the left side. All other BB cars had the battery on the right side, unless they were equipped with air conditioning. ALL factory air conditioning mid-year Corvettes (BB and SB) had the battery on the left side.

2. Will the battery charge up and hold a charge if you disconnect the battery cables and just hook a battery charger directly to the battery?? What is the battery voltage??

3. What voltage does the alternator put out at the red alternator output terminal with the car running?? It should be around 14-15 volts.

4. On a 1967 car (BB or SB) there is a fusible link in the wire from the alternator to the starter solenoid main (+) terminal, which is where the battery is also connected. If the alternator is not charging the battery, the fusible link could be blown.

5. The ammeter in the dash console does not need to work for the alternator to charge the battery. If it is working and hooked up correctly, the ammeter will will show/indicate current going into or from the battery. It measures this by looking at two different voltage points along the alternator to battery wiring.

Tell us more about what you have and answer the questions above.

Is air car so that fits also, thx for clarification. The readout on alt is 14.x and the battery charge to 700+, at least the new one does, cca of 900. I was just worried about trying to track down wire behind gauges that are not attached and not easily viable. Some one put radio at ft knee area that I removed and I assume the wiring was rigged somewhat to supply that w no wires on back of amp meter

It would be best if you got a factory wiring diagrams found either in the AIM or the GM service manual. Then get a ohm meter and start tracing wires.
