I have a 327 4sp 300 hp with a wcfb carb. The accelerator return spring is connected to the oil fill tube. Is that correct or should it be connected to a manifold spring bracket? I'm putting on an orig thermostat housing and it seems like the flatter housing is going run right into the spring on the oil fill tube.

'65 300hp engines used a Carter AFB, not a WCFB - the WCFB was used only on the base 250hp engine. Intake manifolds were also different between the two. Got a photo so we can see what's interfering with what?
Thanks. I have a 3721sb carb. I get my afb & wcfb mixed up. The tab on the oil fill where the spring is attached just seems like it will be in the way.

A lot of auto parts stores carry a "double spring" in the restoration parts section. The important item to verify here is that the throttle goes fully closed when u take the foot off and fully open when u floor the pedal. This is many times overlooked.
Something a lot of experienced carb owners use a "balance spring" that goes on the other side of the throttle lever arm but pulls the throttle in the shut direction only. This balances the force on the throttle shaft and hopefully reduces the wear on the carb body from a large double spring pulling on only one side of the throttle shaft. Ooops, i mean the throttle plate or carb base.

Your spring and bracket should look like the photo in post #3 - it doesn't attach to the oil fill tube.
Perfect, I guess part two of my question is where should the spring attach at the carb? Mine is currently around the accelerator rod to the drivers side of the carb mechanism, I'm pretty sure that is not right. I have a correct accelerator rod on order.
Here is my before. Getting off the oil tube is the answer! I also have a strange accelerator rod that is soon to be replaced, Thanks for all the help!!
The spring end that is wrapped around the accelerator rod should go thru the hole in the rod where you currently have a cotter key. Also, be sure you have the nylon bushing inserted thru the rubber bushing on the "hole side" of the accelerator rod
