1964 pink wire from ballast resistor
I have a 1964 L76 unattached pink 18 gauge wire running from my ballast resistor toward the coil.
I have only one black & pink wire attached to the positive lead of the coil.
The car and systems run fine without the "hot" pink wire attached to anything. The coil is an Echlin IC 12 that reads "used with primary resistance wire or external resistor".
Do I need to attach this pink wire to ??? Or just cap it off unattached.

Looks like you have everyone baffled.
Where is your coil getting juice from?

I'd be interested to know where the pink/black wire attaches on the other end.

Must been my cousin Bubba fixed it.
black wire with pink stripe goes to one end of ballast resistor then to + on coil.
Red wire from key switch goes to other end of ballast resistor and also orange wire from same terminal as red runs to starter. Strange but working perfect.

There's a pink wire in the dash harness from the ignition switch that comes through the firewall grommet (with the wiper motor wires) - that wire connects to the bottom of the ballast resistor. There's another pink wire in the engine harness that connects to the top of the ballast resistor.

As my memory serves me, the pink coming thru the firewall is at least a #12, and the pink #18 may be the wire coming from the (R) terminal on the solenoid to the + side of the coil to provide 12V during start.

I have a question concerning the #12 pink wire, which I believe is a resistor wire. I am installing a Pertronix ignition system and need to bypass that wire with a regular copper wire so I can get 12 V to the coil. How would I get to that wire? Do I have to remove the instrument cluster?

There are no "resistor wires" in a 64, you have a ballast resistor and you can short across it for the Pertronix..
