Default I moved

After living in California since 1965, My wife and I have moved BANDERA, TEXAS in the HILL COUNTRY, about 65 miles NW of SAN ANTONIO.

It is the COWBOY Capital of the world,*population 950. Founded in 1852, ranchers gathered cows and drove them in herds to the Stockyards in Ft. Worth. 1852-1875 was the ‘’Cowboy’’ time. Trains changed*the history after that.

We discovered this area In 2007, and we bought 2 acres in BRIDLEGATE, a new community. We are building a new home.

I can't wait to find all the Texas rancher Corvettes that have been hiding in barns. I joined the NCRS TEXAS CHAPTER and will be active God willing.

Thank you, and HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Jim,
Welcome to the great Republic of Texas. You're going to love living in the hill country. Great roads to exercise your Corvette on. Hopefully get to meet you at the Lone Star Regional in October (Frisco, Tx)

Good for you, Jim. I've lived in CA since '61 (All my life) and moved to Fresno from the Bay Area 13 years ago. Totally different politics and lifestyle here. More like the midwest. I had never realized how obscenely powerful the political machine was in CA until I moved out of the belly of the beast. With all of the political decisions still being made in LA and the SF Bay by voters who were bought with perks and hand-outs, I too may bail out soon. I love Texas politics, love the open spaces, and honestly can say that Texans have a certain old- fashioned sense of duty, patriotism and chivalry that is dead in most coastal areas. My hat is off to you for your courage in uprooting and leaving for greener pastures. I am sure it will be an improvement in your life.

Don’t think you’ll regret moving out of California. My wife and I made a similar move 7+ years ago when I retired, but to the hills of northern Nevada – needed to stay within driving distance of our kids. We are native Californians, lived and worked in the Bay Area all our lives, but don’t miss the rat race and taxes. I think you’ll enjoy a more relaxed life style. Good luck!

Congats on your Escape from CA.

I made it over the wire (river) to AZ, about 1994.

I have found the east and central TX people some of the friendliest in the country.

Jim,

As a native Texan let me be the first to say Howdy Partner! My home state is the greatest Republic in the Union and you couldn't have picked a better place in this great state to live. The Chisholm trail up to Fort Worth is even a trail I have worked on and around through my years. You will soon learn, if not already, why we are the Lone Star State. Glad to have ya!

I left Ca in 1980 and never looked back. The Air Force took me all over the USA, including 4 yrs in San Antonio. I loved the people but not the weather, so after retiring from the AF in 1997, I moved to Colorado Springs where I still live. The TExas Corvette Assoc in San Antonio is the best Corvette club I ever ran across. We had a blast with that group for 4 yrs, enjoying numerous lunch and dinner runs throughout the hill country, including Bandera.

I never lived in Ca. but, had to drive to San Jose twice a month to business meetings for 20+ years. I always smiled on the trip home when I saw the "Welcome to Nevada" sign on I80.

The pics of the hills in Bandera look real similar to what it's like here.

Welcome to Texas Jim! I get down around Bandera now and then, lots of good BBQ in those parts. I've been in Texas over 20 years now, doubt we will ever leave its just a great place to be. You are going to like it here, once you adjust to Texas living. Once you are settled in drop a note, maybe we can get together sometime. Jeff in Anna, TX.

Also watch out for those little bitty deer (not everything is bigger in Texas) that are as numerous as rabbits.

On behalf of all natives of states other than California, we insist you leave all your California ways behind.

Congrats! You're not too far from Enchanted Rock (near Fredericksburg) and Johnson City (fairs, rodeos). If you ever get a chance, take a ride to Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls, and if you're up there, stop by The Oasis on Lake Travis (Tex-Mex with good margaritas, incredible views of Lake Travis).

We considered a similar move. Love Carson Citty and Tahoe, but I can't do snow any more. We lived 20 years in Big Bear Lake. Had a 10 acre horse ranch and a Chevron Station. Maybe we will get the horses back now.

I love the friendly people that really appreciate law and order.
