That APPEARS to be a 53-62 chassis (picture is too small to tell). If so, there are ZERO ball bearings in the 53-62 steering gear box, they're all roller bearings.
If that's what you have, do you need the INNER or the OUTER caged roller bearing? It would help if you provided a little more information about your needs.
At one time, individual caged roller bearings were available.

Where the sector goes in the housing you use the caged bearings. The sector roller that rides on the worm gear uses 22 ball bearings.

OK, I understood him to be referring to the bearing surface on the sector shaft which rides on caged roller bearings.
Soooooooooo, is it the sector roller (where it meshes with the worm gear) which is pitted? If so, I don't know if the roller itself is available separately, as pictured by John.

For the sake of the safety of you, the owner/driver, and others on the road, make certain that after you replace the sector roller that you properly peen the end of the special bolt after the nut is installed and properly adjusted. This is outlined in the ST-12 CSM.
Not doing this properly could be disastrous.
11 ball bearings per side inside the sector roller bearing inner race. Note the retainer which keeps the ***** from falling out.

Hi, Have same issue, need sector shaft bearing but not the worm gear and steering shaft for my 1958 C1. DocRebuild does not sell separately.
Anyone have a good source for this as tried all catalog houses and only comes with $450+/- rebuild kit.
If no vette parts available would this be the same part for another 1958-1962 GM auto?
please lmk if anyone knows a good source for just the sector shaft roller wheel (with bearings and races if possible).
thanks, Bruce

This same style steering setup was also used in 49-54 pass cars. The 49-52 pass cars had brass bushings for the sector shaft. The 53-54 pass cars had the caged roller bearings (same as 53-62 Vette steering boxes).
Where I'm going with this, is that I have never had the pass car and Vette rollers side by side for comparison. BUUUUUUUUUUUT, I THINK they use the same roller. If you can locate a GOOD USED 53-54 pass car steering box, you may be able to use the roller from that.
