Classic Corvette Caught in $1 Gambling Controversy
It seems that a vintage Corvette has found itself at the center of an interesting gambling issue. And the most disappointing part is that a New York State fire department will be forced to bear the burden of the loss.

I'm looking at the mailer I received from them for the raffle; I guess I won't be buying a ticket this year.... Another victim of the law of unintended consequences

I had bought tickets to that raffle in the past, years ago - by mail, paid for by check.

Not clear on what the problem is unless they don't want to temporarily register the car to be able to drive it to events but they do show it next to a trailer. Club I belong to raffled brand new corvettes for years. We didn't do it online and we didn't use credit cards. Each weekend a member picked up the car from the dealer with dealer plates on it and drove to local car cruises on Saturday nights and local car shows on Sundays. In addition we had ticket requests come in by mail paid with a check. We never had any tickets left over by the time of the raffle. We did charge $20/ticket and sold only only 4,000.

The state needs to be flexible by some means. As a former VFD member I understand the need for funds to counter equipment expenses. Dennis

I live right near by and this is why people are leaving New York state by the boat load. The politics here are ridiculous. Someone in the government thought it would be a good idea to screw with a bunch of guys who get up at all hours of the day in all kind of weather to help people. As for the price they paid for the car they have always been able to pay a premium price for an immaculate car because they made it back in ticket sales.

If it was up to me we'd be gone. Too much family that the wife wants to stay close to.
I read a couple local articles about this. I don't think that they deliberately wrote the law to screw with this sort of event. Rather, the law was on the books, and it was discovered there was an unintended application. Last I heard a couple politicians were pushing to get the law modified, but it will probably be too late for this year even if they succeed.

How is this a problem. Redo the contest, and make paypal part of the accepted meduim. Credit cards can be used there.
Of restrict what you can pay with.
I don't see how they are at a loss. Maybe temporarily while they redo the contest, but that was the case for the first go round as well.
