WCFB Rebuild
Been reported on the forum Bob Kunz is no longer rebuilding WCFB.
NOT TRUE. He just rebuilt mine and the car runs better than I can believe. I highly recommend his service. The price was reasonable as well.

Yes, the rumor he had quit doing carbs was incorrect.
He still does 'em.
Daytona Parts still rebuilds/restores them as well - they don't replate the housings anymore though. The EPA just gave 'em too much grief apparently so they quit that part of the restoration.

I sat in the parking lot of the Lakeland facility hosting the dinner for 40 minutes talking on the phone with him.
He briefly discussed this find and I had to agree - he scored huge

I contacted Mr. Bob a few years back to purchase a WCFB for my '58. The phone rang and rang and then a man, totally out of breath, answered. He told me to hang on a minute. After a minute, he came back to the phone. He told me of his two heart attacks and the passing of his beloved wife. He then told me the detailed story of the purchase of the house, the '56 and the "old hot rod". I don't think he fully realized the significance of the car at the time. He told me of his Man-a fre project. We talked of family like we had known each other for years. What a gem of a man. Obviously I bought a carburetor from him. That conversation has stayed with me. His reputation is legendary. This a just a quick story of a good and honest man. Mike

I just want to add that for those on the Left coast, Chuck Smith is still doing this work as well. Bob actually referred me to Chuck as he was within 30 minutes drive for me:

They don't make 'em like these guys any more!

Last summer I tried to get hold of Bob Kunz as he had rebuilt the carbs on my '56 and '57 Vettes and I wanted him to go over the carbs again.. I left no less than three messages both on his cell and at his shop asking him to return my call.
That was about 18 months ago, still waiting.

Great story, SD. I love a happy ending, and it sounds like it couldn't have gone to a more deserving guy. Never met Mr. Kunz, but my hat is off to him. Great stuff!

With all due respect to the great carb restorers; unless yours need replated or the throttle shafts need bushed (which people do ALL too unnecessarily) the WCFBs and AFBs are easy to rebuild with a little care and the right parts... You don't always have to pack them off to somebody and wait weeks to get back on the road...

When I said "they don't make 'em like that anymore', I really meant the guys.. not their work. Chuck Smith is 90 if he's a day.. and he's still as sharp as a whip. I think I listened to him tell stories longer then it took him to rebuild my carb!
