Default Man Buys Entire Estate to Get a Rare 1956 Corvette

Imagine finding this rare 1956 Corvette in someone’s basement and learning that it only had 41,000 original miles?

Sure he got a deal! I am sure he will get most of his money back selling off the rest of his estate. That ladder is worth 30 bucks!

Purchaser is Bob Kunz, the guy who restorers many of our old Corvette carbs. Bob does excellent work on the carbs, and has been doing it for decades.

Glad to see he got a sweet deal.

I like the extra coil springs over the shocks to help the leaf springs in the rear.

Would that make it a semi coil over rear suspension?

Bob and I talked about this car a long time ago. He has been working on acquiring it for quite some time (it wasn't just an accidental barn find). There probably are not very many people here who really understand what this car is!

If that is indeed a real GU code car and mostly original the car only is worth what it said he paid for the estate or a tad more.

If you really want something and you have the means to obtain it without endangering you financial security why not? By today's standards it's really not crazy money.

Ha. Really neat story...folks can be pretty fanatical about their cars. The mileage log books is great, of course, even better are the options on the '56.

Bob Kunz rebuilt the carb for our '60 about 10 years ago now...great guy to work with.

The little 56 turned 45,000 miles last evening on the way to a local cruise nite. I sold the house located in Jennings, MO.(next to Ferguson, MO.) to the next door neighbors for $4,000.00. The Crosley went to the Kansas City area. I'll continue to drive and enjoy my car. I'ts the best place for my savings, because I can't drive a CD. Bob K.

Bob, what a great '56. Do you know much about it's history? Why was it in the basement for so long? Does it have original paint? What are your plans for it? Could you post some more pictures? Nice traction masters. Was it taken to a track?

Harold Pohlmann, started watching the 56 cars at Daytona Beach. He kept notes on all of the speeds posted by the cars. He had noted the results from the 56 Sebring race. He somehow found about the special cam engine. Hence the 240 HP. Engine has never been apart. Has had damage to the left front, and most of the car has been painted at some time or another.I have the Order sheet, Invoice, Original title(he was the original owner), Warranty papers. Complete mileage history from time he purchased it, until he parked it in his basement garage in 1983. I think he just lost interest in cars, because he became interested in Owens Boats.

I really love these type of stories. I just obtained 2 Harley-Davidson panhead bikes last summer that were stored in a cargo trailer for 24 years and never run. I worked to get these off and on for a number of years. Finally got the call, agreed on the price and done deal. Got them both running in only a few hours.
Clean and detail took much longer however! Been looking for a Corvette find but no luck yet.

Will be watching the local shows for your car. I'll probably pester you with a million questions!

Really cool Bob....thanks for chiming in...

Like I said in my post, you were great to work with in rebuilding the carb from by Dad's 60...the carb tag that you made from his original was spot on...

Enjoy your '56! It's a really cool ride.
