Default 1958 tach cable length ??

I am looking at replacing my tach cable and Corvette Central lists 2 different ones for my car. Is it the 60" steel case one or the 72" rubber sheathed one.
The one I presently have is rubber sheathed, but seems a little long. Routed under the cabin air hose/tube and into tach drive on generator.
Car Facts:
283- 230hp
Generator driven tach
Original looking tach and generator

Reason I am changing it was last yr tach needle started bouncing a bit and now does not move with engine running.
Disconnected cable at tach drive, used drill in reverse and tach needle goes up.
Rerouted cable to over top of cabin air hose.
Pushed tach cable all the way back into tach drive and no movement on needle.
Pull back on cable a bit and feel vibration of tach drive on the cable.
Pull back a little more on cable and needle starts to move.
Tighten everything up again and nothing.
Could the drive unit gear be the culprit?
Does this tach cable look worn out ?

Thank you for your opinions.

If I had to guess I would say it was your tach drive gear at the back of the generator

Good guess Wilbur, that is exactly what it was.
Replaced the gears in tach drive and now it works like a charm.
