C1 Door Hinge Question
My 58 door hinges were in boxes when I bought the car therefore I have no idea if they are in the original positions or not. In the process of trying to align my doors, I noticed that two hinges are slightly different. The cover plate on two hinges is 2 1/2 inches wide at the opening while the other two are 2 1/4 inches wide. Does the width determine whether the hinge goes to the top or bottom? Attached is a picture of the 2 1/2 in wide cover which I have at the top position.

I just went out and measured the four hinge covers on my 58. All measure 2 1/4 + (maybe 2 5/16) but not 2 1/2. They seem to be original to the car but only God knows and even He might not even know any more If only old Corvettes could talk. The doors were recently reinstalled on the car and everything fits fine. Hopefully some of this helps. Mike

here is how they fit on a 62; if nothing else, the picture you show has the hinge too far to the right.
as to whether they are top and bottom, I haven't got a clue; whatever you have is wrong, try swapping them...

Thanks guys for taking the time to measure, Not sure why mine are different and not sure what I will do as my gaps are decent with the way they are. May switch one door and see if it makes any difference, Thanks again.

IF you are using the hinge to set the door flush with the fender, I suggest you loosen the hinge and move it all the way inward and then tighten, and then shim the door outward by shimming the door hinge portion inside the door.
