Need White Wall Info. Sharpen Your Pencils Experts
Right now I have a Set of Michelin (4) "X-ONE" 215X70R15's all around with a white wall about 3/4" thick. The Tread looks hardly worn. I put them on over 10 years ago.
I like the tire But.............They all show dry rotting between the tread on the inside valley all the away around the tire in each grove.
Michelin's new Version is the "Defender" in the same size. But I can't seem to find a White wall version on the web. I have KO's and I gotta have White Walls. I want to replace them for safety reasons. I want a High Quality tire and the Defender is rated very well.
I'd like to stay with Michelin's but would also consider a Tire Like Pirelli's.
or any other top brand. Looking for excellent stopping good wet weather traction.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks In advance.

I'm about to replace my 66's tires also. I talked to Diamondback tires yesterday. They have what they call Defender ll that is a Toyo brand that you can get with width and color stripe you want for $229 each. I was interested in their Goldlines. I have Diamondbacks on our other vette. No problem with them at all. They carry a lot of different brands.

Great Price. Tomorrow I call them and see if I can get it in a white wall.
I just feel better buying a Michelin Tire that I Know is a top Brand name.

I find that Michelin tires have cracks long before they wear out.

I found the Michelin Defender on Tire Rack while doing research. It is a very High Top rated tire. After searching all over on the web for a white wall version I found the tire..(No White Wall) on Pepboys for a roll out price of about $100.00 each.
Great Price. Tomorrow I call them and see if I can get it in a white wall.

At $100 per that is less than half of the best price I have been quoted so far.

I have Pirelli P Zero Nero tires on my 2011 Mustang GT which are on since new. All 4 are as you describe yours. I have been driving with them for two years ( 20,000 mi) since I noticed. I drive the car hard and it's my everyday driver car.
Drive on and stop worrying.

I worked for Goodyear for 14 years and saw a lot of tires. Something changed with Michelin tires about 20 years ago. They went from being excellent tires to one of the worst. They will dry rot and crack earlier than any other tire, including Walmart cheapies. The absolute last tire I would buy. I have had excellent results with Goodyear and Diamondback, as well as Winston and BFG. Pirelli's also....excellent.

For what it's worth every Michelin I've ever had has felt hard as a rock. Via forum advice I looked to Cooper Trendsetters for a very solid whitewall radial. I like mine.
They were less than $100 each at NTB last year. Not that price is the most important factor.
There is NOT a passenger car radial made in 205/70 or 75 made today that I'm aware of that will feel like a modern performance tire. They just...aren't. There isn't enough contact patch and there is too much sidewall. I pushed mine hard on the track last year and they were ok- but they are what they are: a passenger tire.
These days we are all used to the very real benefits of 17" plus rims and 7/8+ inch tires that are 40/45 series aspect. It makes a difference! Vanity demands white walls I suppose but it's a trade off.

As stated..Michlelin tire are the worst I've ever seen as far as dry rot...tread lasts forever but that is false security if it cracks.
Look at Cooper, Firestone FR710, Milestar [probabaly too inexpensive for a Corvette guy] and I think Uniroyal makes that size too. Good Luck!

Pulled the trigger on the Firestone FR710...From Tire Crack
$68 and change each tire Tired of searching. The FR710 got good reviews ... Just need a good dry & Wet tire with good stopping. Not in to cornering since I don't shove my 50 year old ratwagon with a 502 BB into 7 g turns.
