After '78, Double Secret Probation
A hilarious analogy of the aging C3 platform in the late 70s to Animal Houses "double secret probation" in this new blog. Check it out:
"With its makeover complete and strong 50s & 60s legacies, the C3 headed for Faber College to pledge Delta and show the Omegas [aristocratic imports] what a GT car was all about. Self-assured, this twentysomething was a heavyweight that battled boulevards two-tone style: with the exclusivity of a sedate V8 and anniversary medallions. And just like the Deltas, it pushed its way into both roadhouses and boat houses. Indeed, this Vette shouted “toga!” like it was on "double secret probation."
And apparently journalist Don Sherman lobbied C&D readers to boycott the '79 Corvette to push for a redesign. Good stuff:

Google search found this. If it’s to be believed, the corvette was borrowed from a local owner and the studio bought another for promotional purposes, to be sold later.

The original Bullitt Mustang was featured on one of the Jay Leno Garage segments. It's been owned for decades by the same guy, who bought it as a used car. You can probably find the Leno segment online somewhere. Good luck.

Burning Brakes
There were two Bullit Mustangs with sequential serial numbers. The one that was in KY has been known about for years. McQueen had tried to buy it several times. The other was found a few years ago in Mexico and is being restored. Might be finished by now.

Pies
I understand that the jello - especially lime - has some texture and sound benefits. However, if you cruise in Flounder's Lincoln or especially Otter's C1, you eat apple pie. Plane and simple; just like you're alluding to.
What's more is that an apple pie could serve as good fodder for the "zit" scene. Thoughts?
