66 speed odometer starts too high
Buying a 66 coupe this week

could you clarify your question, what does "starts too high" mean? It reads a higher speed than actual speed? It doesn't move initially and then jumps up?

Are you referring to the Speedometer? The odometer records mileage. Not sure how that could read too high. They usually just stop working which is related to gearing in the speedometer.

Long Island Corvette has calabrated head assemblies available as do others. Paragon, Corvette Central and Corvette Specialities and several independent rebuilders have rebuild services as do others. Enter Speedometer Repair in the Search bar for this forum and you'll get much more information.
I agree with desert pilgrim that the seller should fix it and if not knock about $300 off the price so you can have it repaired. More $$ if you have someone else R/R the cluster.
