Default Spotted: NOS 1964 327 crate engine

[UPDATE see post 14 and post 39 for additional photos and post 43 for list of parts pictured.]

A guy I know has been storing this since he bought it in 1964: a new unstamped 327 with all the NOS parts in boxes.
For L76 365hp or L84 375hp fuelie.

Not sure how rare it is but I thought other CF members would like to see it.

"Half-Eng" half engine as they used to do it:

In additional to the crate (half) engine, he also originally bought all the parts to make a complete motor:

He has 3 distributors: 2 new, 1 used.

I call BS that is a re-stamped wooden crate I can tell right away. The planing marks on the wood is all wrong and the stamp font isn't right.

Do engines like this come up pretty often?
I haven't followed the C2 world much so I have no idea how common or rare something like this is.
Interested to learn more if anyone would post their thoughts on what they see in the photos.

Wow, What a find. I wouldn't know if I would built it or just hang on to it for a later project. Nice find.

Wow. Nice find.

That's a 365-375 HP for 64-65.

That reminds me of the new 327 340 HP short block I bought for my 57 Cheby in 1963. I think it cost $255. for the partial engine.

someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe they are the same camshaft.

57-63 used old 097" Duntov cam. 64 and 65 365 and 375 HP used the #346 30-30 cam.

That would make sense, as this is a '64 build. Thank you for pointing that out.

There's one other thread with the crate part number (3857615) where the OP was trying to find out whether it's an L75, L76, or L84 engine but it wasn't answered.

Yes, correct for 64 and 65 for both L84 375 HP and L76 365 HP. Same part number, same components.

Quite a time capsule. As it is, parts and all, as an unused piece of history this would make a nice addition to the Corvette Museum. .. On loan, of course.

Great pictures, I love seeing the original NOS pieces. It gives me hope that I may find one for my 64 after all.

As for how often they come up I have found and purchased two 70 LT-1 and one 72 LT-1 in the crate . Put one in my 70 LT-1 and still have the other 70 in the crate, it's in my signature picture. The 72 is built and waiting for a project.
