Well, after 9 years of wonderful ownership and too many adventures to recount my 1961 is pending sale to a collector in Germany.

No seller's remorse here as I decided when I turned 65 to pare down to one classic car.

I'll be selling off some odds and ends after the sale - such as my fancy, dancy cup holder with hidden storage, a front-end bra and other sundries

Frank sorry to here you need to down size as you get older. But keeping up with two or more old cars can be a choir some times. the new owner will get a well sorted out car

Actually - when I got the 4 post lift 2 or so years ago, keeping up with maintenance got easier than ever. So the sale was more about reallocating some assets as I shut down my consulting business at age 65.

The C1 market has softened lately and I just think it was time to move on. I got a good price and, yes, I have a mental image of the lucky new owner in 5th gear/overdrive with the dual quads gulping fuel doing 120mph (I don't know what that is in km/hour) on the AutoBahn.

Hmm must be that your new 63 SW project will be taking it's place soon. That is a beautiful 61 and while there is no sellers remorse now I hope that you do not have any in the future. Cars like that are very hard to find.

Best that its gone, when driving it lately the car seemed to meander over Mike Coletta's way quite often in search of an LS-3 engine swap and a Corvette Corrections chassis -- the 'dark side'

congrats on the sale. I understand your motives completely. Last fall I sold my hot rodded 1956 Belair that I owned for 25 years. With three classics and a Harley I found that I just wasn't using them all and decided to pare down also. Another year or so with my '60 and it will be up for sale also.

I've sold my vintage Mustangs myself and my '67 Chevelle SS-396 three years ago on my own.

This time I used a local consignment shop here in Orlando.....I set the bottom line figure I wanted for the car and anything over that is theirs. I believe they made 10%; maybe a little less when all was said and done and the overseas shipping comes out of their pocket. I'm fine with that and the car was safe in their showroom, detailed monthly and started weekly while it was being marketed.

Again the sale is pending but the overseas buyer put down a 20% non-refundable deposit so I think its a 'done deal'...

As to the question of price, IMO, yes overseas sales prices seem to be higher....
I made some attempts to sell the car locally myself and got lowball, asinine, insulting offers so I decided to let a pro handle the sale and that worked out nicely.

And yes, if I didn't have the '63 I would have kept the '61 - no question on that at all.

Once the car is gone I'll pull all the C1 related stuff off the shelf and sort through it....

Congrats on the sale Frankie.. Sad to see you part with it, but I feel lucky that you had that '61 as I have brought my '61 back to life over the past 2+ years.. so I could pick your brain on every detail!
