As much as I like side pipes you need to ride in a car with them on a nice ride at one RPM and then tell me how much you like them.

As far as side pipes they do make an ultra quiet that sounds nice. Love the side pipes personalty. But on a long ride they do tend to drowned out everything, including the wife! Did I say that?

Hmmmmm. Very interesting.

After careful consideration of all the factors, LOUD side pipes it will be!

454 rebuilt engines are $2,000-$5,000 if you don't go too crazy

Curious what kind of Hp/tq can you get for this kind of money? Is this a complete engine or a long block?

You will also lose about 10% of your engine's power with stock sidepipes compared with the under car exhaust.

The original designed side pipes were hp killers as bb62 says...less than 2" of inner diameter opening...there are new side pipes that have over 2.5 inches of inner diameter...you want these...they don't hurt hp.

Good advice for riding in a side pipe car first...you either love sidepipes or hate them...

The BB swap is easy...this thread covers most of it...depends on how wild you want to get. Headers and pulleys are the main issues that have to be sourced...everything else bolts right up.

You asked about how much hp can you get for $5K? IT DEPENDS...many builders out there...many, many, variants, parts, etc, etc ,etc...

Absolutely!!
Dont see any side pipes being quiet
however if you found "the" car and it had them you can always switch up to undercar exhaust later.

Bang for the buck this is the guy you want

Some great mills here, hard to find a place where the owner does everything. Who wants a mail order piece where a 12/hr unknown is throwing it together?
Do not fall for a nicely worded ebay ad. Maybe some have rolled the dice and been ok but ask them in 10-20k mi how things are going.

I

Man do I wish I could afford another BBC car let alone a C1-2. Have one in a Dually but its no fun with 230hp lugging 8500 lbs around;par throttle is the same as full.
