57 wiper switch cable length
I am putting together a 57 that arrived at my place in several crates of loose parts. I am finishing up on the car right now, but have run into an issue with the wiper motor switch cable and dash actuator. The cable that was in the boxes of parts is just a little too short to reach the wiper switch , so I ordered a "restored original" from Mary Jo. it is almost 2" shorter than the one I have! Does anyone have a 56 or 57 apart that can measure the length of the Bowden cable from the dash actuator to the wiper motor end? any pics of the routing would be appreciated as well, although there is no change in the routing that will make either of these cables work! The AIM is of no help as it shows the wiper **** being right next to the radio, but all pics I have seen of 57 cars, have the wiper next to the headlight switch on the left side of the dash.
Are the 58-62 cables functional replacements for the 56-57?
Thanks, John McGraw

John,
My 57 is unrestored, and the wiper switch is next to the headlight switch to the left of the steering wheel:
The cable runs through the same hole in the firewall as the speedometer cable:
The switch is oriented so that the cable runs to the left behind the light switch before arcing back to the hole in the firewall:
I can't help you on the length, but it sure isn't very long.

Can't help much as the cable/switch is missing on mine, other than to say that if you did put it right next to the radio, it would probably reach! Once you have it sorted out, if you end up with an extra one that works, I'd be interested- send me a PM.

I have not figured out how to post pictures if you PM your email I send you pics. If someone can send instructions on how to post a picture from an iPhone I can post pictures.
The 1956 and 1957 wiper controls are 35 inches, 1955 wiper controls are 28 inches, 1954 wiper controls are 34 inches (I have to check to confirm with notes when I get home), 1953 has two lengths depending which side of dash the control was located.
We make a replacement a 57 control using a truck control that has a similar length of shaft and threads that come through dash. The overall length of the control is about an inch longer than an original but it’s all behind the dash and can’t be seen. The cable coming from the control hosing is the same as original and has the correct two sided crop to hold the end washer.
