Default brakes and rotors

i have never replaced my brake pads or rotors on my corvette.

now when i hit the brakes i hear a scraping noise from the front brakes.

i suppose i need new brake pads in the front. do i also need new rotors?

is this a big job and expensive? what is the best brake pads to purchase?

do they make a extra heavy duty brake pad? should i replace all four
brake pads or just the front ones? i hope i can just do the pads without
replacing the rotors as i hear rotors are expensive to replace or have
them turned? what is all this going to cost me? just a ball park figure
would be greatly appreciated? also what brand of pads is the best?
thanks for all your help.

Front pad will cost you 25-30 bucks and you don't want extra heavy duty pads just the organic standard pad. These H/D pads will wear the rotors out and make the car hard to stop.

Why don't you remove the front wheels and check the pads, it's been so humid that the rotors can surface rust and make noise when driving after sitting for a week or so.

If you don't have it yet, pick up a copy of the chassis service manual for your car. If rotors aren't grooved dont replace. Just get on Amazon and order a set of Delco organic stock pads like Tim suggested.

It's not a hard job at all. The toughest part is getting the wheel off.

Like others have said, just get the standard Delco pad.

One hint is that a wide spatula blade can be useful in getting both pistons pushed back so you can slip the new pad in place.

If you want a little show and tell, go on YouTube. There are videos doing the brakes. Dennis

Hi Scott,

Seems there are two flavors of organic pads, which one would you recommend?

Thanks,
-Doug
