Default 54 front bumper bracket length

My question is with regard to the black bracket, not the chrome bumper piece. Is this part the same length across all corvettes where it was used over the years? These were not attached to my car when I bought it, and when I try to bolt it up, it will line up so I can install the single bolt at the back, but when it is put in the correct location, the front bracket with two holes that mounts it to the cross member, does not line up correctly. It seems that this is an inch or two too long. The extra length is between the flat spot, and the curve. It place the curved portion where the bracket needs to go, hence why it does not line up. Is it possible this is from a 56 or later C1, where the bracket was perhaps longer? Both brackets shown below present the same problem. I have the chrome bumper off of one of them since it was lighter to hold up that way when I was trying to adjust it on the car.

Thanks Chris, I looked there before and saw that. I was hoping there was a slight change between 56-57 that may account for why these are not fitting right, as the bracket in 58 forward is completely different.

That is interesting to hear. Mine are so close, and it just seems like the tube is too fat where the bracket needs to wrap around it, hence why I thought it was slightly too long, and it was hitting in the wrong spot. Maybe these are repops, and the tube is just a bit to big. I may just need to squeeze it in the vice!

In light of what you said Chris, I do think the issue is the bracket is too thick. It is thick where it goes into the chrom bumperette, and it's too thick at the bracket that goes around it. Did you toss them, grind them, squeeze them, cut/weld them?
