Default OT - The "DC Urban Legend" - Is It Real?

Not long after moving here 13 years, I began to hear rumors about the "DC Urban Legend" . . . reportedly an amazing collection of classic and vintage cars, motorcycles, parts and memorabilia on a family farm not far from the Nation's Capital. Is it real . . . ??? . . . is this it . . . ???

My friend and co-worker - Matt - who lives in Northern VA, has an eclectic collection of old cars (a '47 Chrysler, a '30 Ford Roadster, a '30 Ford 5-window, a '54 Chevy "ratrod", and a few others) and belongs to the local chapter of the Flathead Ford club. Thru his membership in the club, Matt received an invitation to attend a very private, "invitation only" yearly family picnic @ the "Smith" family (not their real name) farm, where he met Mr Smith (mid '60's guy) and took in Mr. Smith's collection of all things automotive and cool. Is this it???

the gatheringuests:

While there are many cars outside, most of the collection is in the large white building:

'49 Olds CV with plexiglass hood "windows" to showcase the new Rocket V8!

Now for some photos of the vintage motorcycles:

Tons of parts - many in their original boxes:

The best part? . . . Mr. Smith, SR is said to have "just as much" in his separate collection not far away!!! I need to get an invitation for next year's picnic!

Have a great weekend!

Tom

About 7 or 8 years ago the Western Oklahoma Corvette Club toured a private collection at Altus. The owner had a former dealership full of all sorts of old and not-so-old cars and trucks. Muscle cars, 40's, 30's, I can't remember the oldest. Including a Nash tow truck. Unfortunately I forgot my camera. It's my understanding the owner has since passed away and the collection was sold off.

Looking at OP's pics, that will someday be one heck of a task to get rid off all that! Let's hope it's a long way off.
