Prayers for John Hinckley and his family. This is such sad news, especially at this time of year. The season to have joy and celebrate the birth of our Saviour will be a time of remembering sadness and loss for his family.

Death isn't the end, and it is part of the cliche circle of life, but it still brings sorrow and grieving to family, no matter the circumstances. we need to remember his family especially.

John, you have truly been a blessing to this hobby and the community of Corvette enthusiasts not to forget the Viper community. Your life has touched many, and for the better in nearly every aspect that anyone can remember. You will not be forgotten and we pray you are around to read this and laugh at how much all here were worried about you.

Came to the posting late. Sorry to hear that John is not doing well. He means so much to this forum and others that should the unthinkable happen he will be missed more than most of us realize. If prayers can help I would like all of us to say one for him. I know I will.

Great idea! John has left us an invaluable legacy that should be preserved, indexed, and easily accessible in some fashion.

I've also been watching and praying for good news.

I've always believed that a person is never "truly" gone as long as their stories and life are still being remembered and told to others. There's no doubt John has become immortal in our community. There's just no way to tell the Corvette story without John being part of it.

I hope these messages are being passed along to let him know how we really feel about him and appreciate his knowledge and even more just as a good person.

Take care John...we're all praying for you!

Guys, I have been getting a lot of messages on this and many other ideas related to this sad occasion. I don't have the authority to institute anything like what's been suggested at this point, but thanks to everyone for their various ideas.

I have passed this and the other ideas along to the Administrators who will make the decisions and I will let people know what they have in mind when I know.

I just saw this last night I'm and I'm still in shock..

I've known John for about 15-20 years watching him share his knowledge in NCRS, here on this forum, Vetteheads and many other fourms. I'm pretty hard to stump, but when I was stumped John would always be my go to guy. He always had the right answer and was always eager to share with everyone in this hobby.

This is very saddening news to hear, he will be in my family's prayers. Hopefully a miracle will pulled somewhere for such a kind man.

Ernie

Like a big brother, with wise advice and counsel whenever called upon.
He most certainly will be sorely missed.
God bless him and his family and wide circle of close friends.

Please do find a way to stick his words of corvette wisdom at the top of this forum, for posterity.
He deserves it, and we need it.

John had more than 35K posts. It would be tough to make all of them sticky. Post links to your favorite posts from him in this thread.

I am very saddened to hear this news. Like so many of you I never knew John personally but he gave of himself so willingly on the forum that I was always trying to think of a way to thank him. Proud to say that when the "Gold Lifetime" memberships first became available, I paid for a membership for John semi-anonymously.... I think Troy or whoever was moderator at the time may have split the cost with me. It was a small token but it was the best that I could come up with to thank the man for his patience and willingness to help.

I met John Hinckley back about 20 years ago. Those were the days of VetteNet and Corvette Restoration & Preservation List. I was on those a lot back then, and this guy with an AOL email got a hold of me. I don't remember what it was about, but it seems like he was asking about something. Later as I pieced together who Snake488 was, I began to realize I had hit the motherlode of knowledge. John is not a fountain of knowledge, but rather a huge boiling spring of knowledge that flows like a river. And as quietly and peacefully as a big spring.

I can't remember a time on any list or forum that John got upset, and as we all know, there are a lot of trolls who will push people to the edge. If they think you actually know something, they will push harder.

The first time I actually met John was at Old Town in Kissimmee. Strange that with all the Bloomingtons, Cypress Gardens, Carlisles, and such, I hadn't crossed his path sooner. I can't remember who he was with, but he was standing next to a couple of '57s I think. I remember telling him he just couldn't be THE JohnZ because JohnZ had to be 7 foot tall.

John just laughed about that.

John, we are all pulling for you. Everyone is praying for you to get well. I hope you get a chance to read all that everyone is writing about you and see the impact you have made. And also see the concern all have for your family in this time.

May God bless you and your family, especially in this Christmas season.

Hi,
I spent some 'layover' time in an airport with John a LONG time ago.
So long ago I really didn't know who he was.
He was so nice to me that I marked him down as one of the finest people I'd ever met!
John is definitely a keeper.
I wish him "the peace that passeth all understanding".
Regards,
Alan
