I can't stay out of this thread any longer....
PLEASE do not put cheesy RWL tires on your car. Don't put them on ANY car.
Nothing I hate more than seeing a nice classic with JOHNNY HONCHO SUPER SCRUBBER GT SPECIAL on the sidewall.
RWL tires should be banned.
Blackwalls or whitewalls please. (or redline/goldline if appropriate)
I've got my asbestos suit on. Flame away.

There are a few cars that pop for me with RWL tires, GM A-body and similar mid-size Mopar and Ford muscle, but... beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally I like them in some applications. Don't have them om my '67 C2, but do have them on my '67 Mustang.

I don't like either RWL or OWL (Outlined White Letter) tires on any car.
I've owned a couple of C3's too.

No, - they still make smaller tires, but there is a reason why you can't find RWL's anymore. Like it or not, trends go out of style wether it's clothing, furniture or cars. You can tell everyone how much you love your bellbottom jeans but that still doesn't mean they don't look silly to most everyone else. The OP seemed puzzled as to why RWL's are hard to find and the ones who are cracking jokes about it are trying to explain why that is - because it's not 1978 anymore! It's your car, do whatever you want, gold leaf, crushed velour interior, put a CB in it - maybe you'll be the one who brings that stuff back into style!

I can't believe how careless some of us are with the tires. No one, NO ONE should drive tires that are 10 years old, no matter how good they still look. When shopping for new ones, stay away from SUV tires as well. They are made for much heavier vehicles than a C2 or C3. Step on the brakes on slightly wet ground and you'll agree immediately.
As for appearance: I also think that a red line or white line tire looks best on a 60s car. As for myself, due to my almost paranoid fear of bad tires, I found there are a few "real" modern street tires out there, like the Pirelli P600. Adding a red line to them and bingo, you got the compromise of modern day safety and the classic look of the 60s. Granted, it costs more than 81 bucks per wheel. But as my old driving instructor once said: Driving and braking safely is one third driving skills, one third technical condition of the car and one third having the right tires.

Thorson - your car looks awesome. I think the stance makes it and while the RWL aren't "bad" they do make me want to listen to The Georgia Satellites or The Steve Miller Band. Both of which I like.
Blackwalls and the car would still be awesome.

Great news guys - I just got off the phone with Michelin, Goodyear & Continental and after explaining to them what a difficult time it has been for the few dozen or so of you to come to the realization that RWL & OWL tires have been out of style in the automotive world for over a decade, they have agreed to put them back into full production across all product lines despite the wishes of the other 99% of the automotive industry & consumers! They said that product should be on the shelf by mid November and all the 2017 new car models will follow suit. I'm glad we got that straightened out so we can get back to more important threads like "what wheels fit my car" and "why would anyone deviate from anything but a bone stock, exactly as produced C2". You're welcome & good day!
