Default 1965 Motor question

Hi All, looking at a 1965 327, 4spd conv. Air cleaner has a 300 HP sticker, duel snorkel. current owner thinks it's a 250 HP motor. Vin # checks out OK. Colors correct. Block # provided is 3782870. Number just above that is partially obstructed. How do I or current owner figure out the real HP of this motor? Thx, Chuck

Look at the stamp pad at the right front of the block where the heads meets the block. It's flat and should have the vin and the engine code. The end of the engine code should be HE for 250hp, HF for 300hp. Dennis

Is the date code and engine suffix still on the stamp pad on the engine? The 250 horse originally used WCFB carbs.

The main difference between a '65 250 hp engine and a 300 hp engine was, the 300 used an AFB carb and the 250 used a Wcfb.

Not much need to look any further than that.

Not much need to look any further than that unless you're interested in originality.
