Default C1 1961 Steering box sector shaft question

I am rebuilding steering box on 61 and have reviewed Toms step by step on how to rebuild, good stuff. i do have a question. the sector shaft rollers appear to be offset and angled when compared to the centerline of the sector shaft. I'm assuming this is OK but I also see what appears to be a ding out of the housing. Can one of you pros take a look at these photos and tell me what you think. Jerry

Have you seen Joe Calcagno's YouTube video on C1 corvette steering box rebuilds?
Excellent and very informative.

I'm not seeing a picture of the housing, nor a ding. I only see 2 pictures of the sector shaft.

If so, that's a NON issue because the bearing do not ride on that area of the SHAFT. Otherwise, that sector shaft looks fine. With new caged roller bearings on each end of the shaft, it should be fine.
I'd like to see what the worm gear and sector roller look like. If they have no pits nor damage, then it should all go back together just fine with proper adjustment.

Great . which bearings should I replace? All, none or some? Not trying to save money. I just don't want to have to go back in 5 years of using the car and wish i'd replaced something. jerry

Each end of the worm gear is the INNER race for those tapered roller bearings. The OUTER races for the worm gear bearings are pressed into the cap/box. Simply clean/inspect the rollers and races. If they are in good shape, they should be good to go. If not, you will have to devise to pull those races and replace them. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT, looking at the bearing surfaces of your worm gear, I'm going to roll the dice and speculate that the outer races/rollers are in good shape.
The sector shaft bearing surfaces also look good. Thus, I would further speculate that the caged roller bearings are probably good.
I have part numbers for the tapered roller bearings for the worm gear (but not the outer race). I have part numbers for the caged roller bearings for each end of the sector shaft (they are 2 different bearings). And I have a part number for the outer seal on the sector shaft.

Tapered roller bearing for the worm gear.

Both caged roller bearings for the sector shaft.

Seal for the sector shaft.

And just in case it is of any interest for someone with a 53-54 Chevy pass car, the above are the same parts.

REMEMBER, THE STEERING BOX IS TO BE FILLED WITH A GOOD CHASSIS GREASE---------------NOT 80-90 GEAR OIL!
