Default Driving to Las Vegas east of Barstow. Was that your 1961 going 70 MPH at 10:00 PM?

I think it was around 9:30 or 10:00 PM Thursday night we were headed toward Las Vegas on the 15 North of Barstow. Out in the middle of the desert at night going 70 miles per hour with dim headlights is a guy in a 1961 Corvette apparently heading for Las Vegas. Brave soul. Glad to see someone actually driving their C1.

Hard to tell the exact color. It looked like this with a hard top. I wonder if he is a forum member?

It wasn't me but that's a nice car.

I drove my '61 home 30 miles from Old Town on a pitch black road every Saturday night at 70-75mph for years. Didn't know I was being brave though...maybe a bit crazy.

I was even run off that road at night once at over 60mph by a Plymouth GTX with a distracted driver...

This is what horror flicks are made of.

Vintage vette traveling at speed with dim headlights out in the middle of the desert on a barren stretch of highway. You should check the local news archives and see if there was an unfortunate accident way back when in 60's that involved a 61. It is October and approaching Halloween.

Sounds like you saw a ghost car from the past.

Some poor soul lost it years ago on that stretch.... and is still out there driving it, withe dim other worldly lights ........on Halloween.

My 1961 clocked 1/2 the RPM`s at 70 MPH.....3500 rpm 70 MPH with the 4.11 gear

And the 1962 at 70 MPH registered 4000 RPM with its 4.56 gear

Kerrmudgeon nailed it. My first thought was Ghost Car, too. But the lights in these cars aren't too bad....a huge improvement over the magneto and kerosene lamps on my '15 Ford.....nice and bright in low gear, and as soon as you shift to high, they drop to 2 candlepower as the RPM drops and the speed increases. Sealed beams are a miracle in comparison.

Back before CB Radio and cell phones THOSE were the guys that helped you out; stopped at accidents, put out fires, comforted the injured. Saw it many times on the old Pennsylvania turnpike as a kid

When I was a kid, truck drivers were looked up to as professionals and guardians on the open road. They were courteous, helpful, and lead by example. All that is now gone: they are some of the most rushed, distracted, and dangerous drivers out there.

I have a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country with great lights but the ones on my 62 Vette are comparable.

Boy, ain't the truth. And what's with a semi pulling out from behind another semi to make a pass just as you're coming up...and cutting you off.....enough so you have to hit the binders. .. Nasty women or nasty roadmanship.....this one is irkable ( non words but trying to make a point).

CB's. .. Seems like it was ages ago. Are these still in much use anymore?
