Default 1963 Bell Housing 3788421

I guess I'm wrong but I read somewhere that the bell housing was unique to 63, number 3788421. But when I look on ebay there are several and priced cheap. And no I do not need one so no PM's please, just curious.

1963 small bore bell housing was used on tens of thousands of Corvettes and full size pass cars. Maybe 1/2 ton pickup trucks too?

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, as far as I know, the pickups stayed with the open bottom cast iron housing, with the starter mounted to the bell housing, until about 70-71. As I'm sure you know, the cast iron TRUCK housing has a slightly different configuration from the pass car housings (MAINLY the side engine mount pads).

Below is a comparison of pass car (55-59 versions) and truck housings.

You're probably right on the truck bellhousing. That's why the question mark. I do know the '63 half ton trucks retained the '55-'65 passenger car style three speed transmission.

I read on here an old thread where the fellow asked about bell housings being for 63 only. I do not remember exactly what the thread said and cannot find now but they were in agreement that it was a one year only part. But does not make it true though I guess.

It was a one year only part. You can take that to the bank.

The small bearing retainer was used on the '62-'63 Chevy II three speed transmissions (and maybe '64-'65) but the bellhousing on those cars had the throwout fork opening about 8:00 instead of 9:00 in the Corvette and pass car so they had a different casting number.

Yes but it was the truth the first year for the Muncie had the small input hole as well as the BW t 10 later in 64 they
dropped the T 10 and put a bigger brg housing on front of muncie as of 66 they used the large shaft
