I have a small JBL Micro Wireless Bluetooth speaker I put in the glove box and it connects with my iPhone. It works great. My only complaint is needing to recharge it every 2 days or so.

As much as I like the Bose soundlink III I will be picking up a Harman Kardon Play and Go on Boxing Day if I can find one. I'm not trying to flame the Bose mini which I think is a perfect application for a convertible whilst having it on the dash but after listening to and reading the reviews on the Harmon Kardon it's perfect for a coupe and maybe even a convertible if placed behind the seats where it can't slide around. Check out the link

I think people pretty much over estimate the sound quality achievable in an original midyear. Its not Carnegie hall, anything with enough undistorted volume to let me hear my oldies suits me...

Picked up a Bose Soundlink Mini at Sam's after seeing this thread. It was on sale for $143.99.
Haven't tried it in the car yet but it has good sound in the house.

IIRC the Bose manual says the little powerhouse will sound best when the rear is near a hard vertical surface. Hard to do in a midyear coupe...the rear vertical surface is carpeted and the front (a bit far away) is not vertical exactly (the windshield). But I think you'll be pleasantly surprised just the same...
