Default Donny Brass at Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race

Received my January issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines today. It has a feature article about the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race in Stanton, MI. Page 35 has a photo of Donny coming off the line against a Firebird 400 (scroll to the bottom of the page). Pretty cool, eh?

Yeah, if you look at the results chart, Donny's L79 was only .683 slower than the 1969 L88 Corvette.

That's impressive for a stock 350 HP. What are the rules for that class? Any mod's allowed?

you are allowed some mods over a 'stock' engine:
a .070 overbore
1.5 points over advertised compression
2% cam lift variation
stock heads, intake, exhaust manifolds, and carb
any rear gear is allowed
you get a minimum tire size bump to a F70, then a +1 for any car that came with a F70 or bigger
2.5 inch maximum exhaust with H or X pipe, stock location and exit

the full rules are at PureStockDrags

When I got back from Vietnam my brother in law bought a used 66 corvette 4 speed .
He asked me to come over and put points in it and wanted me to show him the way to shift a 4 speed since my 57 Chevy had one.
Someone came up to us saying they knew the owner and had seen this corvette at the drag strip.
I raced a 68 Camaro with a blower on it he couldn't believe what we had there , This corvette had a top end like I have never seen even today.
Going back to Fort Bragg a Roadrunner pulled up to him going 70 mph
He gave it all it had till the center line was solid and left the Roadrunner behind the needle was bouncing on right side all this done on bias ply tires. Phew
