Default Wilwood D8 calipers and spare wheel/tire

I am replacing my stock Corvette braking system with Wilwood D8-6 front and D8-4 rear calipers. They are supposed to be direct replacements, but apparently they are slightly larger than the stock calipers. With the Wilwood calipers on the car, the stock steel 15" wheels my car had originally no longer fit. This is not a huge problem for the most part since I am placing 17" wheels all around, but it is a problem for the spare wheel and tire.

For those of you with these replacement calipers, what kind of wheel are you using for a spare? I have read of the Chevy S10 spare donut--does it work over these calipers?

I have already considered a can of Fix-a-Flat or AAA and consider these unsatisfactory solutions to the problem.

Thank you!

Great question as I am thinking about updating my 64 with a disc brake conversion and never thought about the spare.

I changed my 64 to discs on all four corners. I bought a 15x5.5 rally wheel from Summit. However with the "big" brakes you could shop for an aluminum wheel in a 17x5.5 or 6. I think your spare tire carrier would have longer bolts since it's a '66 and will hold a wider wheel.

I misread, I was thinking big brakes not just calipers. Disregard the part about an aluminum 17" spare rim.

ðŸ‘

Has anyone else used the 15 x 6" rally wheel with the Wilwoods as mentioned above?

If you let us know where you live, someone close might be able to loan you a rim to test..........

Lynchburg, Virginia. I think my restorer has located a 15 x 6" rally wheel to test fit; will post if it works so others will know.
