This will not work for restored correct cars but if your building a driver/hot rod get yourself the one piece stainless hinges from Corvette Central. This replaces the hinges and pop up springs and will greatly improve hood adjustments.
Thanks all for the help! I'll try the pop-up springs with blocks first since the hinges are new. If that doesn't work I'll go the modern hinge route.
Are there any adjustments to the front pop-ups? They mount solidly to the radiator frame. The only thing I can see that might make a difference is the nut on the bottom of the bolt, but that's no more than an eighth of an inch. And that spring really is too strong!

Yep. I did think of all that, including a weaker spring. The best bet was a shim under the bolt head (inside the cup), so I cut two, which gave me just enough height.
