The door panels need to come off. Each hinge has three bolts holding the door. One trick is to loosen the bolts so the door can move on the hinge and then close the door so it latches. You should be able to move the door up and down, back and forth. Use wooden shims to hold it in place. Your hood sounds way off. There are two pop up springs in front on either side of the radiator that adjust up and down. They are there to help raise the hood when the cable is pulled. Try moving then down first. I've had to ream the bolt holes out to move them down on cars before to get proper height. There are also two rubber adjustable blocks on the body that may be too high. They line up the hood to the body when the hood is closed. The hood latches have springs that are adjustable too. You may have several things going on here with the hood. Pics would help to see what you're dealing with.

adjusting 56-57 hoods is a big pain in the ***. The hinges are crap, and the latches don't work very well.
Do you have the hood pop ups on the front next to the hinges? I generally find that the springs are way to strong on the pop ups which keep the front of hood too high.
The rear is generally easier to get to the right height. Are your latches working properly? if so, then to adjust the height, you just need to screw the rubber bumper bolts down further. The male hood latch pin, needs to be just in the right spot for the latch to catch and hold the pin.

how do you bring hood forwards when i close it it almost hits in the front . looks like were hinge mounts to hood is slotted but there's a little groove with what looks to be a rivet in it so i can't see how you can adjust it there unless i remove that rivet

just was up looking at these hinges again and i think he has the part that bolts to the hood on the wrong side every part on the hinge on the right has a R on it except the part attached to the hood has a L. but the other side all parts have a L but the one attached to hood has no marking. would it make any difference if it's on the wrong side ?

'57 hood gaps/pinching
Hi, looks like my hood settled or shifted a year after getting it back from body shop. The hood is original and the front end is a "restoration grade" piece. The shop fought with it back then and it looked good, but the excluded both front springs and pass side pin/ spring to get it to sit right. The hinges are new, and I have the unused springs. The most terrifying thing is opening the hood. It is rubbing at the front (no damage thankfully). Not seeing any real adjustments, thoughts? Thanks,Eric

You really need to install the pop up springs to help lift the front of the hood. It’s going to eventually chip the paint.

I just installed new popups, but haven't adjusted them yet. I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any kind of padding or rubber piece on my '57 where the popup will contact the inside of the hood. Is there supposed to be something there to keep the top of the popup from wearing the fiberglass? Thanks.

This will not work for restored correct cars but if your building a driver/hot rod get yourself the one piece stainless hinges from Corvette Central. This replaces the hinges and pop up springs and will greatly improve hood adjustments.
