Default Smaller steering wheel or Tilt Column?

Just finished replacing regulators for both vent windows so I was in and out of the '66 Coupe a lot.
For some reason... the steering wheel is really becoming a tight fit for me. Or maybe at 6 feet plus... I'm suddenly becoming a tight fit for the steering wheel.
Wondering which way to go...
Should I replace my stock steering wheel with something smaller? Or... should I keep the wheel and install a new tilt steering column? I have the telescoping steering column now.
Looking for feedback on what's worked well for you guys?

Thanks - K

IF you have power steering, go for the smaller wheel; it will be easier and cheaper... otherwise the tilt column

I have both in my 63's Ididit retro tilt column and late C2 14" leather wheel.

If you have power steering. Far less work and expense.

Yea... I do have power steering. Wondering if I can mount a smaller steering wheel on the telescoping column or do I need to remove it or use an adapter?

I put Borgeson PS in my '67 last summer and went with a Grant #930 15" wheel. Looks just like stock, only a smaller diameter.

the steering wheel separates from the hub, it may be held to the hub by screws or rivets; if rivets, drill them out and replace with flat head countersunk screws & nuts.

Nuts??? I believe the hub on mid years is tapped and threaded for machine screws. At least that is the way my '67 is - 100% for certain. No nuts required......

could be, it's been ages since I've had a C2 wheel off. the picture of the telescoping wheel hub I posted above looks like they are threaded holes...

either way, it's an easy swap...

when just installing a smaller wheel, chances are that the dish is less deep.
So the smaller wheel will indeed be farther out, but due to the inclination of the steering column it will be lower too! Not exactly what is needed. I spent a fortune on alternative 15" steering wheels (I bought 3...), to end up putting back the original 16", giving the best 'stepping in and driving the car' comfort. I measure 6ft4", driving on Borgeson.

I cut off the rails from my seats and this gives an immense increase in head and belly room

I put a smaller wheel in but if all goes well I will put a tilt Column in this year. I'm short and I need to get closer to the peddles.

I have a wheel from a 77-82 Corvette on my telescoping column and it helps with the entry an exit.

I really don't understand your comment, going by my experience.

The smaller dish sticks less far out from the dash, thus creating more room and ease of entry and exit.

That combined with the smaller diameter is a significant improvement in clearance for getting in and out, and thigh room when seated.

I had no negatives what so ever with my experience.

Here is the Grant #930 steering wheel that I used.

The day that I don't fit in the Corvette, is the day that I start losing weight!

I'd do both and hang the original wheel in the garage. Or, start with the smaller wheel and see if it's "good enough" for you. If not, add the tilt. Either way you are improving the car for your driving pleasure and that's a good thing. Save old parts of course and enjoy.

15" Eric Freeman wheel - 1" smaller diameter, 1" less dish = more chest and thigh room.

No power steering here. But I like the look and feel of the original wheel, so Ididit for me.

I'm going to have to go for a tilt wheel as my new seats are a little to high. Who sells the tilt wheel conversions?????
