Many have been removed by covering the arm with heavy tape, grasping by channel lock plyers and a screw driver to help lift. Personally, I wouldn't. Just get the tool. You may need to do this several times in order to coordinate the sweep correctly to avoid jamming them. Dennis

Where do you get the wiper removal tool?

I rolled up a towel on the windshield, then used the claw on a claw hammer. Not high tech, popped right off. They're not on there tight, at least mine wasn't.

Absolutely. Been doing it this way for over 40 years. Just need to be careful to only grab the Lip of the Arm and not the spindle bead. Al W.

I have taken them off last winter. Just make sure you grab underneath. No problems. I make sure there is a towel underneath it plus a blanket or some padding on the hood. No problems.

Or you can just order the proper tool and avoid the towels, drama or the chance of damaged paint or chrome or maybe bunged splines on the wiper arm shaft.
Oh I forgot; its all of $6..

There's something to be said for specialty tools. I can tell you that removing my wiper arms when I was doing the standard to power disk brake conversion 4 years ago, I had a heck of a time getting the arms off with the tool. Don't think I would have gotten them off unscathed using hammers or paint lid remover (bottle opener I guess?).
And don't get me wrong-I hate being gouged by shipping prices as much as the next guy. Your money really that tight? Have one less beer or smoke, or whatever else you spend money on daily without thinking about.

Most any NAPA will have one on the HELP rack...no shipping....
