I was 22.
It was wrecked 18 months later.
It took me 15 years to get another and we still have it.

I was 28, bought an 82 CE. That really don't count as a corvette though. I was 50 when I found my '66, that's noteworthy.

I think that the '82 CE is a cool ride. We've owned 2 of them. Both were low mileage cars at the time. Took a Top Flight & Bloomington Gold with our first one.

Sold a 66 GTO to help pay for the Vette.
I had purchased the GTO at 16, before I had a drivers license.
similarly 21 years later I was 19 in 1999 between my freshman and sophomore years in college. I bought a '69 coupe project - stripped but had been Daytona Yellow, and traded a '70 GTO. It was a rough but restorable ram air iii stick shift.

I was 47 when I bought my wife a black 2004 coupe for her 40th birthday. She cheated on me 3 months later! LOL

Why is that? Just because the rear end changed from heavy cast iron pumpkin to an aluminum batwing? Just because the horsepower of the car was straggled? Or just because it was a 4 speed automatic only?

You know, it is basically the same car at the '68 with a few changes and the '68 is essentially a rebodied '66 with some chassis improvements.

No reason to think of the '82 as not a Corvette.

I had just turned 23 when I purchased this year-old 1962 from a fella at work who was drafted.
I sold it to buy a near-new 63 less than a year later.
I faced the draft myself a few months after that (I was working on my engineering degree and thought I would be exempt from the draft,
but just my luck they ended the "critical skills" exemption 6 weeks before I got my degree, so I joined the Navy).
I still have the 63, which has been a project car for more years than I'd ever admit.

I was 66 when I bought my '67. I wanted a Corvette my whole life from the time I saw the 61's on the showroom at the age of 15. Never could afford one. There were always house payments and other family bills and expenses. Looked at a very nice maroon '62 in 1974. The guy wanted $1,200 and my wife said that was a lot of money for an old used car so I didn't buy it. But I would always point out Corvettes to her when I'd spot one on the road and remind her of the '62 and how much they're worth now.

After our son was off on his own, our house was paid off, we were retired on a pension, healthcare and long-term care policies were in place, and we were completely debt-free and the future taken care of, my wife said to me one day, "Why don't you buy a Corvette?" And so I did. Two years later, she got one for herself, a C6 Grand Sport.

It would have been nice to have owned a Corvette earlier in my life but it's also nice to own one when you're able to buy one that's really nice and ready to go and know that buying it (and maintaining it) won't have any impact on your finances or retirement.

Steve

I was 20 in 1997 and my Dad co-signed for a 94 Black/Black 6-Speed. I drove it for a year but couldn't really afford it and sold it.

I drove that car with a friend from Los Angeles to Florida to visit some friends in college and then drove up to Boston to visit our family. We had to get back to Los Angeles where we lived at the time and made the trip in 44 hours stopping only for gas. We MAY have been speeding..

Have had a lot of cars since and now looking for a mid year.

28 years old in 1990 - Bought it just before getting Married. It only 4,000 miles on it when I bought it. Yep, this maroon/black ragtop had sat in the garage of some rich women's home in the mountains devoid of any love which was likely the same for her husband which may have explained the divorce that brought it my direction. Drove her for four years & the odo read 49K miles and sold it to another for a competitive price (it still looked BRAND new at that point). It cost me less than $1K/year to drive it!
