I am just glad there were no video cameras or cell phone cameras when I was growing up...

40 Years ago, my best friend pulled out of the Mobil station I was working at, fishtailed his '68 right into a fire hydrant. 3/4 nose later it was like it never happened....

About 1968 I was new to my 427, running on the stock tires, came off the line at 3500. Fishtailed into the fender of the 327 Nova I was street racing with. No damage to the Vette, slight scrape in his rear quarter panel. But it was a wake-up call that I had a lot to learn!

I like at 0:45 seconds, how a couple dozen cell phones pop out to record it all.
At 2:15 is a brilliant move, walking in front of the car attempting a burn out.

Sadly I wrecked my '72 in 1983 (I was 16 years old) with a really bone headed move!! Lets just say that a bit of alcohol and an angry disposition don't mix very well!! Got a bit pissed and romped on the car...proceeded to lose the back end and slid into a rather sturdy fire hydrant!
Fortunately the back wheel took he brunt of the impact and had minimal body damage...My ego was not quite so fortunate!!

When I was 14 and in Jr Hi, I couldn't stand stupidity.
I'm 74, I STILL can't stand stupidity. I have no sympathy.

I could have sworn there were, or at least someone following me around, as so many stunts I did ended up in the movies.
Until movies got into these outrageous things, like flying cars through the air for hundreds of feet, or running on two wheels, many of the stunts I had done far too often.

A friend got married in 1979, leaving the wedding two buddies owned Vettes, one a 1969 427 car and the other a 1966 427 but powered at the time with a 350/300 engine.
Many were spinning tires leaving the wedding on the way to the reception. This was common in my group of friends with hot rods back then.
The two Vettes left the parking lot at the same time both smoking the tires, both lost it went into a slide and off the road onto grass, neither hit anything or did any damage but it was so out of control both guys were embarrassed and we spent most of the night discussing how bad it could have been and how lucky they both were. At one point they were both out of control spinning and only 3 feet apart.
Sometimes we get away with being stupid and many others learned from it.
One guy had a Cobra, he was laughing at the Vettes lack of stability while spinning the tires, bragged that the Cobra with the solid rear axle was much more stable and fun to play in.

I've said it here before but will repeat it - you could put a tall stack of $100's on the table in front of me, and I still would not try some of the stuff I did and got away with back then. I used up so much good luck back then, I'm not sure how much I have left!
