Default Mystery Holes in Crate Motor?

I purchased a new 350/290 hp GM crate motor for my 1963 Corvette. There are two threaded holes in the driver's side of the block that I could use some help in identifying please! The first hole is approx. 7/16 inch in diameter and is located above the oil filter at the rear of the block. The second hole is aprox. 11/16 inch in diameter and is located toward the front of the block. Appreciate any help with what are probably dumb questions! Thanks - Rob

Welcome to the CF. Providing generalized locations is not the best for us. Post a couple pics and we can help you better. Dennis

Yep, that hole is required for clutch linkage on SOME cars with a manual tranny. It is pretty much a universal boss/hole on MOST Chevy engines, regardless of whether the engine is for an auto or manual tranny car.
You know, just like the two threaded holes up front on each side for 55-57 engine mounting, or later pwr str pump brackets, etc.
