Big Block Intakes
Hey
Im updating the big block in my 1965 roadster. It had a factory aluminum rectangle port intake and heads. It now has Edelbrock Performer oval port heads(painted orange).
Can someone verify what aftermarket intake manifolds will fit under my big block hood? I would like to use the factory air cleaner assembly.

I am running a Weiand 8013 intake manifold on my 427. It is a clone to the 425 manifold but has oval ports. Have had it one for over 20 years. It fits under my hood. Hope this helps.

Also your factory BB rectangular port intake will still work with oval port heads. This has been done a lot over the years and seems to work pretty well. That is unless Edelbrock heads are somehow different.

I did a little port matching with my manifold. Not sure if you would want to go that route with either set up. I would think it would be easier to match the manifold to the head rather than the head to the manifold. Just depends on which way you decide to go.

Thanks for the help.
I've been having a hard time convincing my engine builder that the factory manifold will work.
After hearing your comments, I'm making an executive decision and using the stock manifold.
The car is very original, so I'm keeping the stock valve covers, manifold, shielded wires and ignition. If should look really original under the hood just a but shinier.
That being said, what do you guys think about painting the aluminum heads?

Stock factory square port intake gaskets work fine on oval port heads. Did it with a 67 tri-power square port manifold on stock 396 oval port heads in my 66 Caprice. No issues.

It can depend on what valve covers you want to run. If you want to run the stock painted GM valve covers then it makes sense to paint them. If you want to go for a quasi L89 look with chrome valve covers then you might not want to. Here is what it will sort of look like unpainted with chrome valve covers.
If you want to look stock then of course they need to be painted.

I think I'm going to paint them. They just look so nice.
Ive been using ppg 60524 per Lars's white papers. The color look good, but i really like a bit more red like ddawson's above.

That looks good to me. I always thought the Chev engine paint I used leaned towards being too red. I think there was always some variation in paint batches and years but it seems like a lot of old original BB motors I remember were pretty orange - not a lot different from Chrysler Hemi orange. The gloss will tone down from heat cycles.
