Default Wheels and tires

Okay hate to do this, but I cannot find thru a search of the width my rims might be. I purchased a set of Knock off wheels for my 66 back in the late 80's when I 1st purchased the car. I measured them on the car going from where the tire sits and it measures 7". Does that sound right? All the websites I found so far that lists knock off wheels for sale, don't list the size.

I need to replace my 10 year old tires. I used to have some nice Michelin low profile AutoX tires on it, but now I have P215/70R15. They have never been that good at handling and I would like to go back to some better tires, especially since they are that old.

According to some internet web site the tires I have now are:
215-70R-15 26.8" tall 6.5" Tread width and 8.2" tire width and fit 6" to 7" wide wheels.

I am thinking about a shorter sidewall tire, maybe a 215-60R-15 25.2" Tall 6.8" Tread 8.7" tire width.

Or a 215-65R15... Which I haven't been able to find the tread width on, but the tire stores around here have a good selection.

I am not sure the 215-60 will fit. My rear wheel well lip has been mostly removed by the previous owner. Has anyone here tried the 215-60? From looking at my car, the front tire fitment may have more of an issue than the rear.
