Default '67 License Plate Lamp

I recently purchased a license plate lamp but the color does not match the lamp I removed from my '67 (bottom lamp in the photo). Can anybody give me direction as to the correct color for the lamp and who makes a paint that is a close match. I plan to use the original lamp as the lamp I purchased does not have a ground wire.

the ground wire comes from the wiring harness and should have a lug that goes under one of the attaching screws. I would use the top one in your picture, looks good.

The top lamp is the reproduction and does not have a ground wire.

If you are planning to do NCRS judging, be aware that the socket of the original lamp at the bottom of the photo has slots for the "nubs" on the bulb, while the one at the top has raised channels. Experienced judges look for the slots.

The condition of the original at the bottom looks like it would be easily restorable with some light bead blasting, some minor straightening, and perhaps a bit of Bondo to fill the rust pits.

Regarding paint color, I think just about any semi-gloss silver paint will pass NCRS judging. I have used one of the (many) versions of "Argent Silver" that are sold for use on 1967 Ralley wheels.

I'd send the repro back, sand and paint the original, (argent silver), maybe use a new a new lens and gasket, put it back in and, call it good. My .02

Thanks Gary - that's my plan.

The gasket that came with the lamp was wrong as well, more of a foam instead of rubber (like the original). Where is the best place to find a gasket?
