Difference in opinion in what a heater valve is worth. Ebay.
Saw these listed right next to each other on Ebay so I thought I would share. Amazing how some think they have gold while the other realizes it's not the real thing.
Buyer beware.

I don't find it amazing though....
After hunting for '63 one-year-only parts, I've snagged incredible bargains for a rare part and thrown up in my mouth a little bit at the prices others wanted for the same thing...

Not to be ungrateful for someone selling decade old parts ( and looking for the highest value ) but my post of " where have parts prices gone " symbolizes these thoughts. Its a trend that seems to have a roller coast affect, great today, cold tomorrow. I am looking at the backyard gear head in todays generation getting into old GM muscle car ownership. My thoughts are if values are lower there would be more participation keeping the hobby alive. I try to sell / trade / locally through CL getting to know others with similar interests. As I don't buy foreign classics I like keeping my Detroit based iron locally.

Sadly, expense is only a part of why younger folks arren't into the old car hobby. Hard to get them off their smart phones to get greasy on an old car. And they know driverless cars are coming.
There ARE some wonderful exceptions though. A few here are in they're 30's.

It is amazing how one can be entertained for hours with a constant check of a mini electronic tablet. I asked a friend how the bar scene has changed with the addition of cell phones. He said in the past people gathered to drink and chatter about everything. Now they nurse a glass of spirits all evening while constantly poking a tiny electronic device . Its like wordless workshop all over again. It is truly an irresistible fasciination to occupy the presence of an interest or hobby. And you can pay your bills at the same time. Don't sign me up .

Some of the fears are that a buyer will get 'burnt' on a rare, expensive part....
There are only two types of classic Corvette owners:
1) Those that have been 'burnt', and,
2) Those that are going to get 'burnt'
Sooner or later you're going to buy a 'turd' part; I've done it twice...once with a fake '609' water pump and again when a seller switched out the back half of a 'real deal' 63 alternator with some other unit...
I was pro-active and got both issues corrected quickly...

A few years back, I watched a speedometer cable housing (not the cable, just the housing) for a 1915 Model T sell for $621 on ebay. There were a ton of bidders. I didn't even try....I was flabbergasted. I ended up getting the cable housing and cable at Bakersfield about 6 months later for $20. Another time, I ended up with a rare, expensive, license plate bracket and fuel petcock for my car in a $20 pile of parts, on ebay. I saw the petcock, and assumed the bracket was a later one -piece unit. I was pleasantly surprised at my luck when it was a two -piece early unit. It's hit and miss, and if it's not life and death, and you don't allow yourself to get emotional and over-pay, it can be quite a bit of fun!

You can try this on for size:

If you have one of the rare 63 A/C cars (less than 300) is it worth it to you ?

I didn't think the fans were black on alternators. So, how it is restored if it has a black fan?

The fan blade and pulley are another deal hard to find with half moon cutouts.

A few years ago I saw the correct heater valve actually sell on eBay for over $450. The right one just sold in the C1 parts for sale section recently for $85. The two seen on eBay in the first post in this thread are close, but both incorrect for 6 cylinder Corvettes. They usually sell for less that ten bucks.
Here's the one that just sold here.
