Here's $400 worth of Mallory metal slugs in the front counterweight of a Chevy crankshaft converted from external balance to internal balance.

Tom, don't give up. Just take a cold one in the garage and relax.

Small update, got the Jegs flywheel. Seems like great quality, fit perfectly, started car without clutch pressure plate, trans, etc and it ran very smooth as it should. New clutch set with borg and beck style pressure plate should be here this afternoon. (I have the over the center clutch return spring setup so I'm using the borg and beck type to keep that part original). I'll make one more post when it's all back together to close this out in case anyone searching finds this post later.
EDIT: Updating here instead of posting because some people have to be negative. As I said, I used the borg and beck because I didn't want to modify the whole clutch pedal system away from the over the center type spring setup and have to
manufacture brackets and such.
Everything's in and working except the speedometer. I pulled the ***'y out to clean the threads for the new cable and the speedometer gear fell into the transmission. Seems like every forward step results in a step back. I'll be driving it to a car show tomorrow morning, so I'll find out how it works in the long run. I really like having the syncronized first gear and the extra gear between 1st and 2nd for slower speed maneuvering. I have to move my leg over to go to reverse now, but I'll get used to that. I don't back up much anyway.

Melting Slicks
I used to use these .... they make 'em for 400's and 454's

Oddly, before these plates, years ago I needed a 454 flywheel for a street rod I was building for myself. I sourced one from a local race engine shop. It had a weight. I took it home and checked the casting # in my trusty Chevy Power catalog [before the internet]. The # indicated that the flywheel was for a 400 [sb]. Went back to the seller and he agreed with me that it was puzzling, but he assured me that they had bought several 454's from GM and, they all came with this flywheel. I installed it and drove the car without vibration for many years. Always wondered about that.
