I think this 63 coupe is about a 70K car, what do you think

Just like any car. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay and what the seller is willing to except for the car. That is what it or any other car is worth.

79K it appears.

It isn't awful by the pictures. 64 master cylinder, polished valve covers, radio but no shielding. And that's not Riverside Red. Doesn't really matter as it's gone apparently.

also needsd paint if you read the description. $79k was a fair price all things considered.
I'm not sure it sold through the auction.

One of two things....
The market for splits is cooling off, they are moving toward more realistic prices.
The market for splits is really bringing out junk.
I tend to think that both are occurring.
I do think that one factor that keeps splits up there is that it is damn tough to fake one. I am talking about the whole car, not the engine / trans setup. A split is a split, and can easily be verified by the trim tag. Too many other mid years have fallen prey to the inevitable "restoration engine", "added factory options", etc. craze.
Having said that, I did see a 64 coupe turned into a split (sort of) many years ago. The Corvette body man that did it told me there was one small thing that gave it away, but I can't recall what it was. He said the vast majority of owners would not know what it was. I wish I could remember what he told me.
IMHO.

That's based on one "off the books" sale ?
You do know that something was OFF about that sale, starting price was $79K and it sold for $79K on a SINGLE BID. Either it sold on a side deal for more money, the owner bought it back realizing he was too low on the price, or, something of a similar nature.
I looked at a split window for $115K, low hp, major body problem a month ago...
I'll agree some junk is showing up but with crazy pricing....
The car in question appeared to be fairly priced but that's before a thorough, physical examination. That's discounting a paint job to cure the bubbles (bad prep) and incorrect color and some other items. That's assuming a LOT of other things are OK (birdcage, stamp pad, frame, etc.)

I noticed the height too and its both front and rear. Would take some looking underneath to see if it was a big deal or something easily reversible...
The 63-only spare tire tubs are reproduced now - I know nothing about the quality of those however...

And if the car is late enough, NCRS says they started using the '64 tub, (with overlap of both designs) so replacing them is even easier.

I just bought a '63 '628 alternator with correct rear housing and half-moon fan and correct pulley off a forum member in the For Sale section for $100. Have a correct one on the car; but you just never know and at that price....

Ha! I call that the 'spare scare'..."that condition wherein an owner has angst over a part for his car becoming unobtainable in the future so he buys extras.."
