Have You Ever Adjusted The Brake Light Switch......
....on a '66 coupe with factory air? Well I have, just finished up as a matter of fact.
The brake lights wouldn't come on with light application of the brake pedal. They'd only come on when I pushed harder on the brakes so I knew I needed to adjust the switch to trigger the lights on sooner. This was my first experience doing that adjustment on a factory air car.
Turns out there's an A/C duct right where you need access to that switch. The clutch pedal didn't help either.
To make it easier to get to everything under the dash I removed the drivers seat, the steering wheel and that pesky duct. Made the necessary switch adjustment and re-installed everything.......
.....and I didn't even have any left over parts when I was done!
What would be a fairly simple 10 minute job in a "normal" car took close to 2 hours. Still all-in-all you just have to love these cars. When you look up under the dash you have to admire the engineers who designed everything to fit and work is that small environment. I'd rather work on my old Vettes than my new "stuff" any day of the week.
Now it's on to the Corvette Home Coming later this week. Hope to see a bunch of mid-years there.

Having a auto isnt any better. I can have that duct out in a ac car in a few miniunts. The last time I had to fiddle with that switch I had dad use a stick to keep the brake pedal down while I lay down under the dash trying not to get burnt by the drop cord light and placing my body in the most uncomfortable position

Lack of good lighting while working under there is half the battle isn't it? I only use LED trouble lights any more, I've been burned enough through the years! I've also given up trying to work under the dash with the seat installed. It's like a medieval torture device worming your way under there.....and I'm not that big a guy- 155lbs!

10 minute jobs that take 2 hours is the essence of working on vintage cars

You're not a real Corvette owner until you've been upside down under a C1 or a C2 dash with both arms elbow deep in a wiring harness and your cherished incandescent trouble light with the aluminum housing rolls up against your cheek to the point you hear meat frying...

All the above are true life facts and actions. They are listed in the fine print of the ownership papers. Dennis

Beautiful car! After many years of laying on my back while holding a flashlight in my mouth to work in tight places I finally got smart and starting wearing a hunters headlight ($19.95 at Cabelas). It makes things much easier.
