Default C-1 defroster box?

At the point of buying a replacement defroster box or fabricating the needed parts. I was considering using sheet plastic reinforced with aluminum angle stock. Possibly fiber board if I could find it. Any recommendations? Hesitant to invest in a new box since the owner may decide he will go with an aftermarket AC system.

I do know that someone made their own; and, from a 2015 post, the metal one may still be available through Dr Rebuild.... there are several postings about defroster boxes; do a search, this is one

Yes, I made one from those materials about two or three years ago. Works great and will probably last forever. If at all possible, you need to salvage and use all the metal parts from your old one.

This is the original

This is a new one

Two Thoughts:

I'm not sure why I did this. Especially since I live n FL and I have no heater core.

If I were to to it over I might just skip the whole deal. I would definitely skip doing a non factory box.

BTW - It seems eveyr box is custom made. Be Patient

If my car was completely original, then I might spend $175 for stapled cardboard, otherwise...
