I drained the tank because I had 93 octane in it put racing gas in. Then once I got gas up to the injection pump I put a gauge on it but it was dead headed into the gauge pressure was 6.5

as was said earlier, if the drive cable is turning the fuel pump (have you pulled the cable out and checked it that it isn't rounded off on either end and watched it turn as the engine is cranked (don't need the cable housing for that), then the problem most likely is internal to the injection pump.

did you call the recommended guy?

Talked to George this morning he says it sounds like dirt in the Injection system would need pulled off. He can't get to it for a few months. And advised me not to attempt it myself.

PLEASE heed his advice....

can you wait that long? it's ALWAYS better to go with a KNOWN recommended expert than an unknown when it comes to FI.

personally, if you can't wait, I would call John and/or George and explain that you can't wait that long; do they have someone else they recommend?

another work-around would be to temporarily replace the FI with a carb/intake so that you can drive it now. shouldn't be hard or expensive to do that for the short term.

I know nothing of that goofy starting system on a '57 but if it was me, I'd chuck the pump cable in a drill and spin it up and see what happens at the nozzle line. I guess you have to apply vacuum on the main diaphragm to make it squirt?

Maybe the pump isn't turning? The cable isn't turning? The distributor is stripped?

I put a new cable on and didn't put the guard over top I can watch it spin . Looks good but how do you apply vacuum. Or better yet if I need vacuum where would be a good place to check if I have it and how much should it be. You would think after it starts it would have more vacuum than when I first crank it.

Just because the cable is spinning doesn't mean the pump is turning or pumping.

You apply vacuum to the main control diaphragm. You can see a vacuum pump in the video of where to hook it. Oral vacuum will work as well.

Instructions on applying vacuum are in the service manual.

I can't tell where that vacuum pump is hooked to. Did they install a tee right at the top where the other tee is?

Apply vacuum to that brass "T". Seal it so it to pull vacuum on the main control diaphragm under that big round lid.

Again, this is the way later units are tested. Not sure about the '57.

the 2 lines your fingers are pointing to are a tight 'slip fit'. the little one is a vacuum to scavenge fuel vapors off the fuel pump reservoir and the larger one provides a reference pressure assist to the underside of the main metering diaphragm from the air flow at the airmeter on the opposite side of the engine. the little one is not meant to move (note the peening dimples around it) but is not critical to operation, the large one is meant to be removable but not 'loose'.

Bill

note: I THINK there is a restriction inside the tee, so if you should take it off, make sure the restriction is in the right direction. unfortunately, I don't remember which direction it is....

So I put a tee inline with the other tee and put a vacuum gauge on cranked the engine it started there was around 12 inches of vacuum untill it shut off about 6 seconds then it went straight to zero. So I cranked again it won't start like normal and it is reading about 1 inches of vacuum while cranking

Yep, there is a restriction and it should be in the rear-pointing branch of the Tee. It is there to limit the idle signal.

With the tee turned 180 out, you'll get waaay too much vacuum applied to the main diaphragm and no venturi signal to the diaphragm. Engine might run but it'll be full on rich.

You were supposed to be apply independent vacuum to the main control diaphraphm while spinning the pump with a drill.

Not with the engine running.
