My wife is out of town for Fathers Day weekend...so I figure hey...one day with the Vette and another day with the Harley right? So it was way too hot to go racing...so I went to a car show to hang out with folks. Was pretty warm there too...but a good breeze was blowing and they had a building with A/C to hide in as needed.
My prep involved stopping at the car wash and blowing the dust off...and heading to the show.
There were some pretty cool rides there. A real Hertz Shelby Mustang with the optional Paxton parked beside me (original owner- ran 2x4's in the 60's on it!). On the other side was a '58 Cushman scooter. I really liked the '58 Chrysler 300 with a 331 Hemi and 2x4's, the 440 Six Pack '69 Roadrunner, a 383 '71 Roadrunner with Air grabber, a '62 T-Bird 2 seater, a silver '71 351C/4 speed Mach 1 (one of one on options according to the Marti report), quite a few early 50's Chevy pickups, a '60's Dodge square body pickup, a rat rod that was actually pretty cool with an old Hemi in it (I'm generally tired of rat rods- this one would have been better if it sat higher)....and a bunch of Model A's etc. I think there was about 125 cars there...so for a small town, a lot of neat stuff came out. Only a couple of "new" cars....everything was old and cool.
One other thing that I thought was neat was the local Sheriff's Dept was there with their "Beat the Heat" Granada race car. I'm talking bad boy....no junk type race car. Neat part was they were having a fund raiser/raffle....and since it's Texas...they were raffling off a custom AR-15!! Only in TX!!!!
I was put in the '53-'67 Corvette class. As I looked around there was a contingent of NCRS/Top Flight C-1's there. I was the only C-2. Well...not going to be any awards for me.....wasn't there for them anyway.
But when they handed them out...guess what? Nasty Hot Rods STILL win the day and I got the First Place Plaque!! How cool is that? People DO still like seeing some rubber chunks on the 1/4 panels (and the doors, hood, deck etc).
